CARAMELIZED ONION TART WITH GRUYER CHEESE

July 14 is French National Day, otherwise know as
Bastille Day.
It's likely you won't be able to hop a plane to France for the day to celebrate
Paris's Independence Day. So I think it is the perfect opportunity
to try French cuisine in our own kitchens. Right?
I have a few ideas to help you celebrate Bastille Day.
Onion Tart could not be more French.

Start chopping two onions. Saute them in butter with a dash of salt and pepper
till the onions caramelize.

Grate 8 to 10 oz. Gruyer Cheese.

Grab a store bought pie crust and top it with the cheese, leaving a 2-inch border
and sprinkle fresh thyme over the top.

Top with your caramelized onions.

Add a few more thyme leaves. Fold the edges of the dough over the
cheese to create a rim. work your way all around,
pleating the dough as you go.

This is so much easier than it looks. Really!

Whip one egg yolk to brush on the dough

Brush the dough evenly all around.

Off to a preheated oven at 350 degrees for about 30 to 35 minutes.
Now, while the Tart is cooking we have something very IMPORTANT to do…

We need a Celebratory Cocktail. After all, we have to toast the occasion.
Lets head to my Bar Cart
and make a St. Germain Cocktail.
Add a splash of St. Germain Liqueur.
Pour in your favorite French Champagne and drop in a raspberry.
" a la votre santé "

I have my French inspired plates out and ready, because my Onion Tart is almost done.

This Caramelized Onion Tart smells devine and looks so French.

Lets slice this tart now!

Make another St. Germain Cocktail and lets enjoy this tart
because we have to celebrate Bastille Day!
This Caramelized Onion Tart is a snap to make but ….
We won't judge if you decide to?

Buy a croissant at your market.

Make a sandwich on a French Baguette.
Just be French for one day.

"Vive la France"

Enjoy!

P.S.

Made in France Maria Antoinette Croissant.
