IRISH SODA BREAD

Irish Soda Bread is unlike other breads. It's almost like a
cake or even like a biscuit and has also a slightly
sweet and surprising delicious taste.

The reason for it's unique texture is due to the lack of yeast. Instead of
yeast to help the bread rise, it uses baking soda. The chemical
reaction between the baking soda and Buttermilk produces
carbon dioxide and causes the bread to rise. Hence the
 name Soda Bread.

This is the bread for your St Patricks day table but once
a year is just not enough, so I say make it often! Yum

Get your Leprechaun hat on and lets
ABC....

"Always Be Cooking!"

In a large bowl mix together...

4 cups of flour
4 Tbsp of sugar
1 Tbsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda

To the bowl crack in one egg and 1/2 cup of soften butter.

The best butter ever to use is
" Kerrygold " because it's

Pure Irish Butter!

Pour in 1 1/4 cups of room temperature Buttermilk to the bowl.

Use a hand mixer to help combine everything together.

Turn out the dough on a floured surface and kneed it for
about 10 minutes. Dust it with flour as needed.
It's done when it is about the consistency
of Playdough.

Form the dough into a nice round ball.

Place the dough on a cute baking dish lined with
Parchment paper.

Cut a large X in the top of the dough. This is very
important to help the dough cook through.

Place the dough in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes
so that it comes out ready for a rich glaze.

While the bread is cooking, make the glaze by melting
1/4 cup of butter and 1/4 cup of Buttermilk.

When 15 minutes are done, take the bread out of the
oven and brush the glaze over the top.

Put the bread back into the oven for another 15 minutes.

Pull the bread out for another round of glazing :)

Bread goes back into the oven for 15 more minutes,

Yes glaze again and back into the oven for !5 more minutes.

When the 15 minutes are up, use a tooth pick and check the
middle of the bread. If it comes out clean it is done.

If it doesn't, glaze it again and put it back in
for a final 10 minutes.

I did put mine back in for 10 more minutes :)

My Irish Soda Bread is done but not finished.

Yes, grab some Kerrygold butter and rub it all over the bread.

My kitchen smells simply Amazing :)

Let the bread rest for about 20 minutes before slicing it up.

Time to enjoy the Luck Of The Irish.

I like to eat Irish Soda Bread with butter and have it as
a snack. It's fabulous toasted in the morning with butter and jam too.

Traditional Irish Soda bread was served with some
Irish Soups & Stews.
