SKILLET IRISH SODA BREAD

Like so many delicious breads Irish Soda Bread is the product of a poor country, made with only the basic ingredients. I've tried several recipes for Irish Soda Bread but love this one in a skillet.
It bakes into such a beautiful loaf that I can hardly believe it
it isn't a yeast bread.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. In a large bowl wish together 4 cups of flour,
2 teaspoons salt and 1 tablespoon of sugar.

Add in 1 teaspoon of baking soda.

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture, and mix in one egg.

Grab your "Kerrygold" pure Irish butter and melt 2 tablespoons.

Pour into the batter 1 3/4 cup of butter milk.

Drip in the melted butter next.

Stir the batter with an "Irish Green Spatula".

Lightly flour your hands and sprinkle little flour over the sticky dough ball. Use your hands
to scrape the dough from the side of the bowl and quickly shape the
mass into a ball, kneading lightly if necessary.

Transfer the dough to a prepared skillet. Using a sharp knife make an X
across the top of the dough ball. Why?

Legend has it the cross was cut on the top before baking it to
ward off the devil and protect the
household....

Place in the oven to bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown
and the bottom sounds hollow when taped.

Remove from oven and let cool for 15 minutes.

When cool just flip bead onto the counter.

Grab your Irish Butter NOW...Seriously, you can have a gorgeous loaf of homemade
bread on the table in about an hour from
start to finish.

Get slicing.
