I completely love to entertain at home. When the weather permits is so fun to cook and eat outdoors. This past weekend we had a few couples over for dinner. I decide on a casual feast, guest should be encouraged to eat with their hands. I got out my Orange Seersucker and had plenty of extra napkins on hand.
I made one of my favorites, a Shrimp Boil. This dish reminds me of the years we lived in DC, Maryland and Virginia. A Shrimp Boil is easy and fun for all. Yes, you can eat with your hands and please do.
This is all that went into my big pot of boiling water, kielbase sausage, shrimp unpeeled, corn, potatoes, onion and Zatarains shrimp boil seasoning.
Its cooking on the grill. John will you pour us all a glass of that Rose I love so much please… Whispering Angel
I think its done.
Lets Get Boiling
Heat a large pot of water over an outdoor cooker, or medium-high heat indoors. Add seafood seasoning ( Old Bay or Zaterains ) to tastes ( I like more than less ). Bring to a boil. Add potatoes, and sausage, and cook for about 10 minutes. Add your sliced corn and onions; cook for another 5 minutes. Drop in your shrimp when everything else ia almost done, and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes.
Drain water and just dump it all onto a plater. Its really fun to pour the contents out onto a picnic table covered with newspaper ( thats how I did it back east ). Now, go grab yourself some Crusty French Bread and refill you glass of wine!!!!
This is such a perfect summer party in a pot.
Ingerdients
3 tablespoons seafood seasoning (Old Bay or Zatarains ) or to taste
5 pounds new potatoes
3 ( 16 ounces ) packages cooked kielbasa sausage, cut into 1 inch thick pieces.
8 ears of corn. husks and skins removed. Cut into 3inch pieces
4 pounds fresh shrimp not peeled ( the fun part is peeling shrimp at the table and licking your fingers).
Maureen’s Change Up - Add whole crab. Completely change up the amount of ingredients depending on how large your crowd is. There are so many variation to a Shrimp Boil and sometimes you will hear it be called a Low- Country Boil. Go explore them all and have fun,
Enjoy
