KATHERINE HEPBURN'S SIGNATURE BROWNIES

Kathrine Hepburn is, of course, well known as a very famous actress but
did you also know she was famous for her chocolate Brownies!
The story goes like this...

The recipe comes from a letter to the editor of the New York Times on July 6 2003.
Hepburn's New York neighbor Heather Henderson recalled her first memorable
meeting with Katherine.

At the time, Heather was threatening to quit her studies at Bryn Mawr, Kathrines alma mater.
Heathers father, who noticed that Katherine lived near by, slipped a letter in her
mail slot, begging her to talk some sense into his daughter.

Katherine called Heather at 7:30 am the next morning and lectured her on the stupidity of
her decision. The two arranged to meet for tea. Katherine convinced Heather to
stick it out at Bryn Mawr. This began a series of casual meetings between
Katherine and the Henderson family.

One day Heathers father heard Katherine had been in a car accident and was recovering.
He stopped by her place to bring a batch of brownies. Hepburn tasted them
and BALKED....

Too much flour! Don't over bake. They should be moist, not cakey! As always,
Katherine was opinionated and brutally honest.

She rattled off her own Brownie recipe while Heathers father scribbled notes.

You may gasp when you read the ingredients, lots of butter, lots of sugar and
only a tiny bit of flour. The lack of flour apparently is Katherines
secrete to great Brownies

In honor of Katherine I decided to try out her recipe for Brownies...

I made these Brownies twice over the weekend, and they are wonderful rich and gooey!

Toss in a sauce pan 1/2 cup of cocoa and 1 stick of butter.

On the stove top melt the butter with the coco and stir till smooth.
Remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes.

Grab....

2 eggs
1 cup of sugar
1/4 cup flour
1 cup of chopped pecans
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 pinch of salt

Crack the eggs into the chocolate.

Give the sauce pan a good mix.

Tumble in the sugar.

Another good mix to the pot.

Tumble in the flour and give it another good mix again.

Stir in the vanilla.

Pinch of salt.

Tumble in the pecans.

Give the batter a stir and have a taste....OMG Yum!

Grease up an 8x8 Pink Vintage Casserole Dish with butter.

Pour the delicious batter into the baking dish.

Off to a 325 degree oven for 40 minutes.

As Katherine says "Don't Over Bake". They should be gooey!

While the Brownies are baking enjoy this :)

These Brownies smell amazing  Katherine,  I did not over bake  them ;)

Let cool (an essential step).

Grab a pink knife and cut into bars.

Thank you Katherine Hepburn for the best recipe for BROWNIES.

Moist & Gooey!

Enjoy!

P.S.

Maybe like Mr. Henderson make a batch of Brownies
and drop them off at your neighbors with a note...

"Eat these Brownies while you watch The Philadelphia Story".

Remember Katherines words...

Not too much flour and don't over bake because they should be moist, not cakey!
