Smorgastarte is a Sandwich Cake. It's a dish of Swedish origin popular in Sweden,
Fineland and Iceland. It is a savory cake that is similar to a sandwich,
but with large amounts of filling.
This cake can be served on special occasions or events. It's probably because this
dish is very delicious, goes well with a great deal of other foods and serves
as a beautiful decoration on the table.
Make It For Easter!
Use your favorites for the filling for your sandwich cake.
I used Egg Salad & Tuna salad.
Slice crust of simple white bread.
Grab a spring form pan and place four slices of bread to completely cover the base.
How may slices you use depends on the size and shape of your pan.
Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise over the bread.
Spread Chicken Salad next.
Thinly slice up some cucumbers.
Top chicken salad with the cucumbers.
Another layer of bread.
More Mayonnaise.
Spread the Egg Salad.
Sprinkle the Egg Salad layer with chopped chives.
Another layer of bread and mayonnaise.
Chicken Salad and cucumber again.
One more layer of bread but NO Mayonnaise.
Now gently press the cake down. No Mayonnaise.
Wrap the cake in plastic wrap and let sit over night.
Little trick...
Place a heavy pot on the cake so it really does press down when you put it in the refrigerator.
Mix together 8oz of cream cheese (room temp) with 4 table spoons of Mayonnaise for frosting
Again more or less depending on the size of your cake.
Don't use too much Mayonnaise you want a good frosting consistency :)
Oh My Gosh...this excites me! Look at all the pretty layers.
Place your cake on a plater you will be serving it from.
Now just start frosting your cake with a polkadot knife.
Perfect!
Ya time to decorate the cake.
Use your own creativity with vegetables.
Spring Radish Flowers.
Some cucumbers and large parsley.
Let it rain chives.
